my first sock!!!

Yea! I finished my first sock!!! I used a tutorial I found on the web (haven't gotten used to reading patterns yet.) I decided to test it on some old yarn found in my stash but when I was reaching the toe I ran out and found a small ball of red! Makes for a cheery sock non? There are a few mistakes, one by the heel and I didn't do the best job grafting the toe... but its just a practice one, I mean I dont' have any more grey so there won't be a pair to this one ;-) He's on his lonesome! I can't wait to order some sock yarn and probably some new needles since my DPN are too big for finer yarn...

Anyway yay for my first real project! Branching out from scarves, hats and armwarmers ;-) Although I did learn how to do some Fair Isle and made a hat for a friend of mine (hoping she isn't reading my blog...)
Mystery Guest modeling the hat, its a wee bit too small for him but should be ok for my friend, hope she likes it!!

wow! congrats, I like the bit of red around the top... colourful for winter. The hat is very awesome, nice to have a pattern on it to add some colour too!! I've never made it past knitting a scarf.. and there are always a few holes! I'd like to learn to crochet, maybe I should look for online tutorials. Keep up the crafty work!

OOhh maybe you could make it into a sock puppet or something. Great job. All I have ever attempted is scarves.

ooh, wow, I'm inspired. My mum and grandma are super knitters and I really want to learn ...
I just need to set foot into a french yarn shop. eek. with dictionary me thinks.

I also think sock puppet would be great! The red could do for lipstick!

Thanks guys! (or I should say gals ;-)
It's fun to have a new challenge and I can't wait to order some nicer yarn - this "sock" is really thick and I can't even put on my slippers over it!
@kim I've never learned how to crochet, sounds like it could be really interesting too...

hehe @megan and Emmy a sock puppet, too cool! i might think about that!!! lol

Oh and Emmy I think you'll be fine in a shop without a dictionary, just know the very basics first "laine, aiguilles" and then "une maille" is a stitch :-) I'm sure you'll be fine!

Very cool! I do like the cheery red toe to it! I have only been able to knit straight things so far, mostly scarves, a shawl and a blanket. I need to branch out too. The beanie is so nicely done in the 2 colours. Do you have a pattern online for it too?

@la nortoise thanks!!! glad you like the beanie, there was no pattern for it, i did the usual beanie that i do and then i found a pattern for the flower, that's all! :-)

Hi Karina,
Christine knits a lot of socks and highly recommends this website for ordering the yarn...
