fall harvest

I harvested a few things from the garden this afternoon. The zucchini are still producing but the little zucks are rotting before they reach maturity so I figured why not harvest the tender zucchini babies? (did that sound as violent to you as it did to me?

I also pulled an ear of corn to give it a test run tonight. I read that if the top kernels don't mature it's a problem with fertilization. Given that I planted my corn over 6 weeks late I think the little mini corn doesn't look half bad!

I'll let you know how it all tastes though!

how many courgette plants have ou got? Did you grow the plant from seed or did you get a mini plant?

I got 2 plants from the garden center. I read that for 1 or 2 people you shouldn't plant more than 2 plants or you'll be invaded by zucchinis! Mine didn't overproduce like I had read, but we didn't have the best summer. I got maybe 1 every 10 days on average which worked out well with how much we wanted to eat! ;)

by the way, the corn? FREAKING amazing for dinner tonight!!!

I saw zucchini flowers on sale at the fruit and veg shop yesterday! I was very surprised, but a quick google search reveals that yes, people use zucchini flowers in soups, quesadillas, breaded, pan-fried, deep-fried, or stuffed with cheese. Crazy!

I have heard of eating zucchini flowers but since I wasn't exactly overloaded with prolific zucchini this year I didn't try any of them. Maybe next year... :)
