vacances dans le sud!

Hello Hello!

Ok I need some help from the blogging world! I'm going down to Montpellier next week for 5 days to visit a good friend of mine, but 2 of the days she has to work - since I've never visited the south of France before I'd like to do some day trips. I was thinking 1 day Avignon and 1 day in Carcassonne. I was looking at train times and if I reserve in advance I can get cheaper tickets.

So my question to you: is there enough to do in Avignon if I hang out from 10am - 8pm? Same in Carcassonne? I don't really like travelling on my own so I'd rather have things to do but not spend too much money either... anyway any advice would be very welcome!! :-)

Thanks!!!

Hi!
There is more to do and see in Avignon than Carcassonne, but both are places where you could easily pass the day.I'll think about some suggestions of things to do, but in Avignon, there is the Palais de Papes, le Pont d'Avignon, the center of town, a boat trip on the Rhone....

Yes for carcasonne too. you'll arrive by train so take a taxi to the old cité and spend half a day in the castle. then walk down hill to the new city (much easier on the legs) and check out all the cute shops and then head back to the train station from there.

personally, i seriously hearted carcassonne. we walked from the train station to the old city. interesting factoid: some of ROBIN HOOD PRINCE OF THIEVES was filmed here (i think they used the gate).

I have a friend who went to Carcassonne and really loved it, but I think like Riana said it's doable and it'll be just a lot of walking around.

I went to Avignon for my April vacances and I was there for 3 days, so there is def enough to do for a full day. You could always jet over to Nimes for a couple hours to check out the arenes and walk around a bit(like 3 hours would be bon, I think) and the train round trip was only 8 euro. Have fun!

Hi. We have never been to Carcassone, only driven past. Avignon is nice, there is definetely stuff to see. I think the general consensus is there is enough to do in both cities.
