In my hot little hands...

All in all it cost me a grand total of 430 euros (9 hours of driving and 2 driving exams). Better than the 1,000+ euros it costs new drivers but more than I wanted to spend... oh well at least it is all taken care of now! Coolest thing is that I can show this as ID instead of my carte de sejour lol.

is that true you can use it as ID? I would happily take on the french nationality just to have an ID card! We don't have one in the UK and there is no way i'm carrying my passport with me all the time and i run into problems from time to time. I'm yet to drive in France but just knowing that (in theory) I can just swap my license for a french one AND it being accepted as ID is well, très tempting.

ps, congrats!

oh and, don't you just love how you don't have to renew the photo on the french license like EVER! I nearly died laughing at the sight of my FIL and MIL licensees circa 1970!

I'm impressed! All of that hard work ~ kinda reminds me of taking you to the DMV for your first license 12 years ago! But this one is even better!

congrats! What a relief that it is over! Now go make some photocopies and scan it in case you lose it and need to get another one.

i remember when I went to the Us as an aupair girl.
I also got a new driving licence to be abble to drive the kids around...
and i had to drive in an automatic car... I was hard for me...
And I had it then as a "profile" driving licence because I wasn't 21... It was also an ID fro me, but not very helpful when I wanted to go out !!!

Thanks everyone!!1

Emmy - it is not official ID in the sense that it doesn't show your nationality but if you want to show ID to write a cheque, pick up a package at the post office etc but you can't travel on it or anything.

I wouldn't recommend exchanging yours if possible because then you will get stuck with the points system. If you get a ticket on your UK license you'll just pay the fine but won't loose points. Most of my colleagues have kept their UK license for that very reason.

When does it bother you not to have ID? what situations?
